The Red-Yellow-Green Zones of Exercise Part 3

In part 1 and part 2 of this short series, I showed you how to recognize when you’re in the Red and Yellow zones during periods of exercise and the steps you can take to start going in the right direction.

For this final portion of my video series, I want to share several tips you can use to stay in the Green zone, which is exactly where you want to be when you’re exercising.

Even in the Green zone, you will want to pay very close attention to the balance of adrenaline, cortisol and insulin — the three primary hormones — in your body. When these hormones start firing up, you can spiral downhill in no time. Believe me, I see it happen all the time.

All of these tips I share in my video build upon staying alert and focused on your exercise program.

Thinking too much about “the Jones” around you in the gym can get you into a lot of trouble. Don’t be distracted by someone else’s workout that you may want to try even if you’re not up for it.

Instead, trust your feelings — fueled by your values — to listen to your body and make the right calls about what to do or not do that will help you stay focused on your dream.

If one of those values is listening to your body and you’re not feeling up to a heavy workout, maybe it’s right to do some tai chi or stretching.

Always being mindful of your body and its needs are the foundations for staying in the green zone of exercise and making your dream a reality.

Love and chi,

Paul
